"Portrait of an Artist( Pool With Two Figures)
-Year: 1972
-Medium: Acrylic on canvas
-Size: 84 x 120 in"
David Hockney has used certain visual qualities such as line, shape, colour, texture and tone to create a distorted effect on the human form. The cool colours along with the lines and repitition within this artwork show distorted effects on the character swimming in the pool. This is shown by the use of blue over the firgure in the water to show distortion especially with the darker blue around the lower half of the man swimming which helps show the angle of which the artwork has been painted from. The line pattern along the surface of the water shows the water's movement and distortion by the water ripples breaking over the figure. With darker tones and shadows in the background your eye is brought straight to the man swimming enhancing the distorted effect.
