"Nicholas Wilder Studying Picasso"
- Year: 1982,
- Medium: Polariod
- Size: 48.5 x 26.5 in"
Within the artwork "Nicholas Wilder Studying Picasso", Hockney has used his photo-joiner technique to give a distorted effect. This distortion is created through each individual photo being taken from a different angle or moment in time, using colour, line and texture to his advantage. The grid format helps to enhance this effect with the white line seperation next to each image. As this artwork was made with photographs, David could not simply paint the way he wanted the colours to be instead he has taken photos from different angles and times of the day to show distortion through the use of cool colours.
The overlapping and placement of the photos within this artwork give a great effect of distortion, which personally has inspired my own artwork for my Body Of Work. The colours, different angles and time is giving you endless possiblilites of what you can create from just one inital image.
